Position Summary:

The position is a strategic leadership position requiring executive leadership experience and expertise in Risk Management. The Vice President of Workers Compensation Risk Management (VP of WCRM) will be responsible for ensuring that the risk management framework, policies and processes are embedded across the Program organizations.

The VP of WCRM is responsible for overseeing the key functional disciplines associated with underwriting, risk consulting/loss control, policy/audit, claims management, and risk analytics.

The VP of WCRM will also be tasked with ensuring the risk program is structured effectively and efficiently, while providing appropriate oversight to ensure strategic objectives are attained. The VP of WC RM will set the strategic direction of the department, determining and managing staffing levels and ensuring that Risk Management activities are compatible with and supportive of the strategic objectives of Company.

The position requires a high degree of collaboration and interaction with the Risk Management leadership, both in the Program business unit and Corporate risk management groups as well as Market General Managers and other leadership engaged in the delivery of our client value proposition. Excellent analytical skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Also have the capability of providing independent, informed, timely and objective challenges to the Senior Leadership team in relation to strategy, and on management of key risks, and ensuring their business activities are within the risk appetite set down by the Company Board of Directors.

The VP of WC RM will operate within a matrixed dynamic enterprise, managing the needs of a diverse stakeholder group spanning the Executive/Senior leadership team, Internal Audit, Finance, Sales, Service, External Auditors, and Regulatory Bodies - ESAC, Insurance Brokers, Insurance carriers, Reinsurance carriers, and Claims Management Third Party Administrators. This position has a significant financial impact on the Company due to the materiality of the insurance premium and the partnerships managed.

Key Responsibilities Direct and deploy Added Value opportunities for Clients within the Service Organization. Be responsible for the ongoing development, integrity and embedding of an appropriate risk framework (processes, policies, procedures and supporting systems) across the business, ensuring consistent application of risk management and internal control practices to business unit and Company Corporate to ensure adherence and the appropriate risk governance structure to ensure effective risk oversight. Ensure that all workers compensation material risks across the business have been identified, are measured (where applicable), have been communicated and have effective risk management strategies in place Maintenance of an effective operational risk framework and proactive operational risk function that will advise and influence process change, and will consider impact on risk and other resources. Lead, motivate and develop the team to maximize their potential, their professional knowledge and their contribution to the business. Serves as the primary relationship / contact person for all broker(s), underwriters, auditors, actuaries, claim handlers and other insurance related personnel Manage the agreement of and adherence to the annual budget for the team Preferred Qualifications

Skills and Abilities Critical/analytical thinking skills to analyze data and disaggregate business plans into component risks. Ability to independently formulate and draft balanced, well-reasoned recommendations and to present such recommendations persuasively to senior management. Critical thinking skills -- Strategic thinking, effective analysis of data, and the ability to disaggregate business plans into component risks are essential skills needed in the role Interpersonal skills -- Strong verbal and written communication skills in achieving effective relationships and motivating others. Keen business acumen -- Business and financial judgment, and problem-solving skills are crucial requirements to serve as a trusted adviser and a control authority. Strong process orientation -- A strong understanding of processes and core management activities are essential in assisting the organization develop processes to identify, monitor, and report on key business risks. Concise, direct communication while under pressure, and active knowledge-sharing styles are necessary to manage through a crisis. Knowledge of captive and reinsurance structures. Excellent analysis and observation skills in order to ensure accuracy of financial analysis and reporting. Possess the ability to trouble-shoot and solve problems independently, quickly and efficiently. Ability to be flexible in order to meet deadlines, complete projects, etc. Collect and report company manual premium, underwriting and claims data in conjunction with independent actuary and brokers for the renewal of insurance policies. Participate in renewal strategy, stewardship, actuary and underwriting meetings. Support the administration of insurance policies in coordination with insurance broker, insurers and internal stakeholders. Oversee the management and administration of claims in coordination with insurance broker and insurers and liaising with internal department (legal, business). Coordinate insurance premiums payment, accounting and allocation. Oversee the handling of internal and external clients' inquiries pertaining to coverage, certificates of insurance, claim issues, sales and vendor insurance contract issues etc. Responsible for clients' contract management, incl. liaison with business and legal departments. Reviews and proposed language/terms for contracts, agreements, bids, proposed transactions, special coverage requests, and other company arrangements for necessary indemnification, insurance requirements, and other related risk management objectives. Support the preparation of risk reporting to the Risk Committee, Leadership and the audit committee. Engage with compliance teams on the execution of Program/Corporate Risk Assessment. Direct and support all legislative and regulatory changes or impacts to the works compensation program. Prepares Board of Director level presentations summarizing the corporate insurance program's structure and strategy and other requests as necessary Perform other special projects and duties as assigned. Requirements are: A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or other related insurance field required. Master's degree preferred. Significant experience with implementing, overseeing and managing large corporate insurance programs. At least 10 +years' experience in risk management and reporting to the executive leadership. Preference is for a candidate to be in a current VP, Risk Management role. In-depth knowledge and technical understanding of various insurance coverages and markets. Strong leadership, organizational, time-management, communication, presentation, and analytical skills. Existing relationships in the insurance industry other relevant industry designation preferred.
