The role The Senior Engineer - New Product Development will support feasibility, development, and commercialization of breakthrough medical devices. You will work with Marketing and customer groups to create product specifications through site visits and physician focus groups. You will be responsible for product design and engineering, leveraging fail-fast, iterative prototyping, test development, creating protocols and reports related to design verification and validation testing. You will assist developing strategy around regulatory filings with the FDA and other regulatory agencies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in compiling customer requirements and product specifications Leverage computational modeling/FEA, rapid, and traditional prototyping techniques to create functional designs and test those designs with users Assist in creating a Hazard and Safety/FMEA analysis Apply working knowledge of materials used in medical device applications in the context of biocompatibility and hazardous substance directives Conduct and document technical reviews, serve as independent reviewer Compile, organize and interpret technical data and specifications Manages the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple or large-scale projects Create contingency plans to mitigate technical risks Design for manufacturability and develop assembly and tooling strategies Develop and conduct design verification and validation activities Write reports and support regulatory filing activities Transfer of new products from R&D to internal plant or contract manufacturing, assist in process validations Perform troubleshooting and defect analysis Create and document intellectual property through disclosures, understand state of the art and IP landscape Work with cross-functional teams to support new product launches Develop and leverage a robust working knowledge of Design Controls and various Quality Systems to efficiently navigate through product design Your qualifications Required: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering plus 5+ years of experience in mechanical and/or biomedical engineering Rigor and passion for complex design and new product development Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills Ability to communicate well through written and verbal means Ability to interface effectively with health care professionals and medical device customers Working knowledge of statistical methods, including the use of leading statistical software Proficiency using a leading CAD software (e.g. Solidworks, Creo, AutoCAD, etc.), generating and reading 2D engineering prints, and statistical-based GD&T Preferred: Class II/III medical device design experience Advanced degree in a scientific or engineering discipline (M.S., Ph.D.) Working knowledge in Design for Manufacturability and Process Capability Analysis Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification Working knowledge of medical device electrical safety standards (i.e. IEC 60601) Experience with volume manufacturing techniques including energy and adhesive based bonding, extrusions, secondary processes (swaging, bending, skiving) and surface finishing on small components Avanos Medical is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other characteristic protected by law.
