Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities1. Knows and applies fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of power system focus area*.2. Develop and maintain an advanced level of expertise in the detail design practices of SEL protection and automation systems.3. Develop and maintain an advanced level of knowledge of SEL equipment and solutions to electric power system protection and automation applications.4. Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget to a high level of quality.5. Train and assist customers with the installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices.6. Work in a safe, healthful, and environmentally sound manner, report accidents and unsafe conditions promptly, and perform ergonomic exercises to reduce likelihood of injuries.7. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.8. Understand. Create. Simplify.9. Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.10. Other duties as assigned.Required QualificationsMinimum Associate's degree in electrical or electronic technology or equivalent experience/military school training, B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant disciplineExperience with electrical power systems or industrial automation system practices, and *focus area practices and philosophiesGood knowledge of system protection, integration, and automation applicationsDemonstrated knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and/or automation and communications applicationsDemonstrated proven knowledge of electric power system design, information and communication technology and protective relay applicationsWilling to travel both domestically and internationally as required, at least 50% (eligible for additional compensation)Excellent technical trainingSelf-motivated with continuous desire to learn concepts and technical details of products and find/design solutionsAbility to learn new skills, work independently, accepting ownership of assigned responsibilities and assume new responsibilitiesStrong writing, documentation, and speaking skillsAbility to work cooperatively in a team environmentBackground check results satisfactory to SELNegative drug test result(s)Preferred Qualifications2+ years of experience with electric power transmission, distribution, and/or generation systemsWork experience in electric utilities, industrial plants, communicationsExperience being a part of project teamsFamiliarity with power industry communication protocols and standards (DNP, IEC-61850, Modbus) * Focus Area = NetworkingNetworking = industrial control system networking experience, including provision, design, test, and implementation supporting system reliability, dependability, and security. Working knowledge of NERC/CIP compliance and/or NIST SP800 security requirements.
