Job Description:
Job Description The Segment Safety Manager is a key leader
within the SR 400 Express Lanes Project Safety Team, responsible
for implementing and overseeing occupational health and safety
programs across an assigned project segment. This position ensures
compliance with OSHA, GDOT, SRTA Technical Provisions, and the SR
400 Project Safety Plan. The Segment Safety Manager has the
authority to stop or suspend work for unsafe conditions and is
accountable for cultivating a strong safety culture that protects
workers, the traveling public, and project stakeholders. The
Segment Safety Manager directly supervises the Safety Engineer(s)
assigned to their segment and reports to the Project Safety
Manager. Key Responsibilities Implement and oversee the Project
Safety Plan and site-specific safety procedures for the assigned
segment, consistent with SRTA/GDOT Technical Provisions (Attachment
2-4). Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and trend analysis;
track and report accidents, injuries, near misses, and property
damage. Review and approve Construction Work Plans (CWP) and Job
Hazard Analyses (JHA); lead discussions with project teams to
ensure hazard recognition and control. Deliver safety orientations,
training, and refresher sessions; oversee toolbox talks and ensure
timely communication of lessons learned. Verify that required
permits, certifications, and safety documentation are current and
available for all construction activities. Ensure availability,
inspection, and maintenance of safety equipment and supplies before
work begins. Provide technical expertise to project teams regarding
hazard mitigation, safe work practices, PPE, and regulatory
compliance. Oversee incident reporting, investigations, and
corrective action plans; verify timely closure of corrective
measures. Develop, review, and update site-specific evacuation and
emergency response plans in coordination with project leadership
and local responders. Mentor and supervise assigned Safety
Engineers and other segment safety staff, promoting professional
growth and balanced workload distribution. Collaborate with Segment
Construction Managers, Project Managers, and subcontractors to
integrate safety into planning and execution. Provide project
status updates and trend reports to the Project Safety Manager and
project leadership. Perform additional assignments as directed by
the Project Safety Manager or senior leadership. Required
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety,
Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field
(preferred). Minimum of 8 years of safety experience in
construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management
capacity. Demonstrated experience managing safety programs on DOT
or heavy civil infrastructure projects. OSHA 30-Hour Construction
Certification (OSHA 500 Authorized Trainer preferred). Strong
working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926/1910, MUTCD, GDOT Technical
Provisions, and industry standards. Effective written, verbal, and
presentation skills with ability to engage and influence all levels
of the workforce. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital
safety management/reporting platforms (e.g., Procore, Origami Risk,
or equivalent). Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in
occupational safety, Construction Management, or related
engineering field. ASP, CSP, or CHST through the Board of Certified
Safety Professionals (BCSP). First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
(Instructor level preferred). Temporary Traffic Control Design &
Supervision (NSC or ATSSA). Experience supporting large DOT or
heavy civil projects. Familiarity with MUTCD traffic control safety
requirements and GDOT Technical Provisions. Physical Demands &
Environmental Conditions Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear;
frequently required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities
include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust
focus. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions and active
construction sites. Noise levels range from moderate to very loud;
hearing protection and PPE required. Potential exposure to moving
mechanical parts, elevated work areas, and airborne hazards.
