Senior Vice President, Risk Management Job Location(s) US-GA-Alpharetta Posted Date 3 months ago (11/19/2020 5:37 PM) Job ID 2020-4464 Company Jackson Healthcare, LLC Category Other Overview The SVP, Risk Management, is responsible for successfully designing and executing risk-related strategic objectives that minimize or manage the company's risks. The SVP will oversee the company's Risk Management department and ensure that all procedures, protocols, and loss prevention programs are fully implemented and properly managed. This individual will be responsible for multi-line insurance coverage; policy and claims management; litigation management (in coordination with legal); management of nation-wide WC program; and management of medical malpractice/GL self-insured programs. This individual will work collaboratively with operating company presidents, JH legal counsel, and executives at JH Corporate. This individual is responsible for the leadership and development of a team of insurance professionals and administrators. Description

  • Promotes and cultivates a strong risk management culture within Jackson Healthcare
  • Sets the strategic risk management vision and is charged with delivering that strategy to the company using exceptional leadership skills
  • Evaluates potential risks and exposures to the company; determines how to effectively minimize those risks and develop procedures that can be implemented
  • Designs a program around the evaluation of risks to be retained and to be transferred in the procurement of commercial insurance, self-insurance, and captive insurance as applicable
  • Maintains effective, interactive communications on risk management related issues with relevant parties, including operating companies, senior executives, legal department, regulators, auditors, etc.
  • Works closely and regularly with the JH Legal Department with respect to material claims and litigation, including collaboration on reserve amounts, carrier reporting, etc.
  • Leads the formulation, interpretation and application of the company's policies and procedures as they pertain to risk management, liability claims, workers' compensation claims, auto claims, occupational health and safety regulations, workplace accommodations and other related issues
  • Coordinates, monitors and evaluates, with appropriate staff, the company's occupational health, safety and emergency management programs to ensure employee well-being and compliance with all federal/state, OSHA, ADA, and related regulations
  • Prepares and monitors annual departmental budget and responsible for providing budgetary guidance for the overall enterprise-wide cost of risk, as well as the allocation of costs to operating companies
  • Authorizes expenditures according to company policy and uses actuarial data to properly accrue IBNR, case and loss development reserves consistent with GAAP
  • Conducts due diligence associated with new business initiatives
  • Provides routine risk management review of contracts and provides direction and guidance, or objections, where applicable
  • Leads and manages a team of Risk Management professionals; appraises performance and provides technical direction, guidance, and oversight
  • Serves as the company representative for mediations, trials, etc.
  • Acts as a fiduciary of the company's assets and conducts business in a transparent manner
  • Other duties as assigned Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
    • 15-20 years of progressive experience in risk management, including procurement and management of commercial insurance: workers comp, auto, EPL, E&O, GL, medical malpractice, cyber and property
    • Experience running self-insurance and captive insurance programs
    • 15+ years' experience managing/leading a team within a risk management context
    • Experience in healthcare or healthcare staffing risk management strongly preferred
    • Experience using Ventiv or similar Risk Management Information System Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      • Current trends, techniques and thinking to respond to the ever-changing risk and insurance landscape, including alternative risk financing
      • Principles and practices of risk, occupational health, safety, and emergency management
      • Procurement and management of commercial insurance related to workers compensation, auto, EPL, E&O, GL, medical malpractice, cyber, and property
      • Self-insurance and captive insurance program design and management
      • State and federal OSHA, NCQA, ADA, Affordable Care Act, FMLA requirements
      • Clinical credentialing and certification standards
      • Clinical terminology and understanding of healthcare - the delivery system, continuity of care, and treatments/procedures
      • Knowledge of current trends, techniques and thinking to respond to the ever-changing risk and insurance landscape
      • Records retention guidance for federal, state, and municipalities
      • Claims litigation management
      • Ability to design risk management programs that are cost-effective for the enterprise
      • Ability to lead and deliver cross-functional initiatives to provide risk assessment guidance, recognize risk, loss mitigation, and design enhancements
      • Highly collaborative with the ability to work with internal/external business partners at all levels using a consultative approach
      • Data-driven and analytical, with the ability to conduct risk management and risk avoidance analysis, evaluate statistical data and trends, and develop tracking metrics
      • Displays a strategic mindset with strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability
      • Highly organized, with a focus on business process excellence to manage the volume and pace of a high-growth environment
      • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation) and executive presence
      • Ability to lead, inspire, manage and develop a team of insurance professionals and administrators
