Job Description:

Overview Provide leadership and direction to company operations regarding Health and Safety (H&S) programs to ensure compliance with Health & Safety (H&S) regulations under Occupational, Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) or other applicable state regulation. This position establishes and directs company policy and standards to ensure all operations comply with applicable H&S rules. The position is in the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) department, and reports to the Chief Counsel, Environmental, Health and Safety. Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for development, management, and implementation of company H&S standards to ensure all operations meet applicable OSHA requirements, including all associated policies, procedures and tools required for proper implementation;
  • Provide subject matter expertise (SME) regarding regulatory compliance with OSHA regulations applicable to General Industry;
  • Conduct H&S reviews or audits of plant H&S programs and performance to ensure compliance with corporate standards and applicable OSHA regulatory requirements;
  • Work closely with the operations team, including the Director, Health & Safety Operations to ensure H&S compliance programs are properly implemented at all facilities;
  • Ensure sites understand and are in compliance with H&S regulatory-required reporting and recordkeeping requirements, including accident reporting, medical monitoring programs; and, assist with obtaining information related to workers compensation cases; Conduct H&S reviews or audits of plant H&S programs to ensure acceptable performance and compliance with company H&S standards;
  • Ensure operational leaders are informed of H&S compliance requirements, and receive proper instruction and understanding of legal requirements to implement corporate requirements;
  • Intense focus on high risk H&S areas to ensure plant operations and conditions are maintained in a safe and healthy condition to protect employees;
  • Provide support to operational leadership and site personnel in development of training content to meet all regulatory-required H&S training requirements; Conduct H&S reviews or audits of plant H&S programs and performance to ensure compliance with corporate standards and applicable OSHA regulatory requirements;
  • Direct and support sites regarding proper industrial hygiene sampling protocol and monitoring requirements to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA (or other applicable H&S) regulations;
  • Support sites with preparation for and management of regulatory inspections or agency requests for information;
  • Support Chief Counsel, EHS with all H&S-related enforcement proceedings;
  • Develop and manage H&S compliance projects and remedial activities, as required;
  • Assist facilities in obtaining or maintaining qualification and registration to OHSAS 18001 Safety Management Systems;
  • Stay abreast of new or emerging H&S regulations, and ensure standards are updated to reflect changes to regulations; and,Maintain effective relationship with plant managers, H&S personnel, and corporate management. Qualifications
    • Bachelor degree (required); with high preference for Juris Doctorate
    • 7-10 years--- experience with health & safety compliance, OSHA regulations, and/or advising or consulting clients regarding proper implementation of regulatory required programs;
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience with OSHA H&S General Industry regulations;
    • Strong skills in interpreting regulatory requirements and translating regulatory knowledge into company policies and procedures;
    • Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills; networking internally and externally
    • Ability to work in a team environment and work collaboratively and persuasively with all levels of the organization to influence change;--
    • Ability to develop detailed project plans and execute on those plans;
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, outside agencies and the general public; and,
    • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including a respirator, and move throughout a manufacturing facility in the performance of work responsibilities.Travel and Other Requirements:
      • Willingness to travel to facilities in the US (approximately 25% of the time, up to 50%.
