Job Title: Respiratory Therapist II Profession: Respiratory Services Specialty: Therapeutic Treatment Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM Experience: 0-2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months critical care required License: Registered Respiratory Therapist Certifications: - Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS - Instructor or ACLS - Provisional - Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS - Instructor or PALS - Provisional - Neonatal Resuscitation Provider or NRP - Instructor or NRP - Provisional Must-Have: - Ability to communicate well - Critical thinking skills - Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other healthcare professionals - Computer skills, including familiarity with databases - Good customer relations, assessment, and communication skills Description: The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient situations. The majority of time is spent in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision-making, and self-direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II is responsible for patient, family, and support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self-development activities. The RT II provides patient care with an understanding and awareness of population-specific needs. The RT II addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs when providing care to patients. The RT II participates in the education of new employees and others. The RT II performs patient assessments and collaborates with healthcare team members in planning patient care. The RT II verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. The RT II performs ventilator management, weaning, wave form graphic interpretation, and airway management, including intubation, extubation, and trach tube change and care. The RT II performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. The RT II educates patients and mentors or precepts new employees, students, and peers. The RT II assists in invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. The RT II promotes current and accurate ordering, charting, and charging. The RT II promotes a high level of patient safety, medication safety, and performance improvement initiatives designed to enhance quality care. The RT II reviews revised and new department protocols. The RT II performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies, and standards of work, and code of conduct.
