Job Description:

Emerald is seeking a Managing Editor to support our premier trade publications for the residential kitchen and bath design community, including Kitchen & Bath Business magazine and kbbonline.com. This position will support our print magazine as well as our digital products, which we’re enthusiastically growing to include newsletters, podcasts, sponsored content and video interviews.

 

To support this growth, we’re looking for a strong writer and editor with a deep understanding of SEO, social media and digital content planning who is eager to immerse themselves in the kitchen and bath design community. As a visible presence for the brand, the Managing Editor will attend events and lead video interviews as well as have ownership over actively building and maintaining relationships within the industry.

 

The best candidate for this position will be a self-motivated, efficient writer who is comfortable juggling multiple articles and projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, dynamic environment. The interpersonal skills and maturity to seek out, build, and maintain productive relationships, including a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and diplomatically with both team members and prominent industry professionals, are essential for this position. As a visible representative of the KBB brand, you should also be comfortable being in front of the camera for video interviews and other digital initiatives.


  • Proofread/copyedit content
  • Assist the editorial team with print and digital editorial content planning
  • Manage, create, edit and post online content
  • Practice SEO best practices to increase newsletter opens and online engagement
  • Establish and maintain relations with industry professionals and advertisers
  • Seek out new interior design projects for coverage in the magazine and online
  • Write stories about interior design projects, industry news, design trends and people
  • Assist with the magazine’s social media platforms to create more audience engagement
  • Assist in coordination of annual projects and events, including the Product Awards, Person of the Year Awards, CEDIA Expo and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show
  • Assist editorial team in recording podcasts and video interviews with industry professionals, advertisers and exhibitors
  • Attend and cover industry trade shows and conferences
  • Represent the magazine at various industry events and functions
  • Foster relationships with brands and advertisers at said industry events

  • 5 years experience in journalism, publishing, communications or a related field with demonstrated excellence in writing and copyediting
  • Strong knowledge of SEO and digital best practices
  • Knowledge or strong interest in interior design and architecture
  • Strong communication, writing, editing and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in social media and blogging strategy
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Proficiency in Photoshop or related image-editing program for basic photo resizing and InDesign
